The website www.llagaresvalveran.com, displaying carefully chosen photographs and remaining faithful to the philosophy of José Masaveu’s most innovative and personal project, aims to take the user on a journey through the history of Valverán cider, promotingthe special qualities of both the Spanish and British products.
The website is adapted to a variety of devices, is completely responsive and also links to other sites that the consumer may be interested in, such as the online store or information about the group to which it belongs, Bodegas Masaveu.
Valverán was founded in 1999, producing the first and most exclusive ice cider in the Iberian Peninsula. The El Rebollar Finca is located in Sariego, Asturias. It has 35 hectares of land which contain 20,000 apple trees of 11 different varieties (Blanquina, Xuanina, Regona, Raxao, Fuentes, Collaos, De la Riega, Verdialona, Perico, Durona de Tresali and San Roqueña), which allow them to produce 18,000 bottles of this renowned ice cider full of nuances. It can be described as a sensual, fresh and surprising drink that goes perfectly with foie gras, cheese and desserts that are not too sweet.
Valverán 20 Manzanas Ice Cider
The name Valverán 20 manzanas comes from the quantity of apples needed to make each 37.5 cl. bottle: a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 28, depending on the weather conditions for that crop.
This drink is produced through a complex freezing process at 20 degrees below zero, then fermented for 10 months and aged for 12 months on fine lees. The whole production time is usually around two years from the moment the apples are picked until the bottle reaches the end user, with the initial fruity and sensory qualities being maintained throughout.
This exclusive and valued product was produced thanks to the visionary character of José Masaveu, the general manager of Bodegas Masaveu, along with the effort and dedication of almost ten years of research and trials.
This innovative product has received numerous awards in recent years,
such as the prize for the Best Ice Cider in the Nava Cider Competition in 2019, the Gilbert &
Gaillard Guide Gold Medal in 2018, the first prize in the ice cider category at the International
Cider Show Gala in 2017 and numerous other prestigious national and international awards.
The Masaveu family entered the wine industry in 1974, when they acquired Murua Bodegas. But the family’s vineyard plantations date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés. This is where the family originated and where Federico Masaveu Rivell began the steps that his descendants would continue a century later.
Since then, Masaveu Bodegas has grown into a leading winery in the industry, both for the quality of its wine production in various destinations of origin and for the ecological philosophy that demonstrates their utmost respect for the land.
