Valverán 20 Manzanas Ice Cider
Valverán was founded in 1998 and was the first and most exclusive ice cider on the Iberian Peninsula. The name Valverán 20 manzanas comes from the minimum quantity necessary to make each 37.5 cl bottle, which contains the concentrated juice of a minimum of 20 apples.
This drink is achieved after a complex process of freezing at -20 degrees, then fermentation for 10 months and aging on fine lees for between 10 and 12 months. The complete process normally takes around two years from when the apples are picked until the bottle gets to the final consumer maintaining its initial fruit and sensorial qualities.
José Masaveu’s (Managing Director of Masaveu Family Wineries) vision together with effort and dedication throughout 10 years of research and testing were fundamental to accomplish this exclusive and prized product. Furthermore, this is Mr Masaveu´s most personal project and the only one with roots in his land, Asturias.
Forty planted hectares, certified as organic, and situated in the Protected Designation of Origin Cider from Asturias, to be precise in the El Rebollar Estate in Sariego (Asturias), hold 20,000 apple trees, which enable the production of 20,000 bottles of this distinguished ice cider that is full of nuances. 11 different varietals grow on the Estate, however only five are used to make the ice cider: verdialona, durona de tresali, raxao, fuentes and collaos.
This ice cider can be defined as a sensual, fresh and surprising drink that pairs perfectly with foie, cheeses and not very sweet desserts.
Masaveu Family Wineries
The Masaveu family first invested in the wine sector in 1974, when they purchased the Murua Winery, however the family’s first vineyards date back to the middle of the 19th century, precisely in Castellar del Vallés where the family originally comes from and where Federico Masaveu Rivell began a journey to be continued one century later by his descendants.
Since then, Masaveu Family Wineries has grown to become a leader in the sector due to the quality of their winemaking in different DO´s, their sustainable philosophy and utmost respect for the land in their estate owned vineyards, thanks to which they transmit the unique personality of each terroir in each and every bottle. This being the common denominator in each and every project that Masaveu Family Wineries embarks upon in different parts and regions of the country: Murua (DOCa Rioja), Fillaboa (DO Rías Baixas), Pagos de Araiz (DO Navarra), Leda (Wine form the Land of Castilla and León) and Valverán (Asturias).
