Aug 21, 2024 | Pagos de Araiz Wineries

The premium Blaneo range by Pagos de Araiz Wineries has been acknowledged by Beth Willard in Tim Atkin’s first report on DO Navarra, awarding 94 points to Blaneo Garnacha 2022, 93 points to Blaneo Syrah 2021 and 92 points to Blaneo Chardonnay 2022.

Following her visit to the Navarra Designation of Origin in February to learn about production in the wineries in the area, the expert on Spanish wines also rated the traditional Pagos de Araiz range of wines, awarding 92 points to Pagos de Araiz Rosado and 90 points to Pagos de Araiz Crianza.

In the report, Beth Willard says that Blaneo Garnacha 2022, the wine by Pagos de Araiz Wineries with the highest score, is a “very refined and precise grenache” full of “lively herbs and violets” with “pure red cherries” on the palate, that proves “smooth and silky”. This wine was awarded the prize of Best Red Grenache Wine at the Selection of Best DO Navarra Wines 2023 for its 2021 vintage. Blaneo Syrah 2020 received 95 points in the Gourmets 2024 Guide and Blaneo Chardonnay 2021 was awarded 92 points in James Suckling 2022.

Pagos de Araiz Wineries renovated the brand image of Blaneo Syrah in 2021, offering a new, more modern, avant-garde image to this range of monovarietal wines. The following year they launched the new Blaneo Grenache, these wines from the premium Blaneo range by Pagos de Araiz Wineries have been widely acknowledged by several critics and national and international guides.

When the Masaveu Family bought the Pagos de Araiz Estate in Olite, in 2000, a fresh and daring project was created in the traditional D.O. Navarra. The work began with the construction of a totally avant-garde, 14,000 m2, château style winery building situated on the outskirts of the town of Olite/Erriberri.

This 300-hectare estate currently has 150 estate vineyards surrounding the facilities, planted with several grape varietals (tempranillo, graciano, grenache, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay and syrah). The winery’s innovative form of management and wide range of wine tourism activities on offer, connect the historical, natural and winemaking importance of the area around Pagos de Araiz to art and gastronomy. The ideal setting for a bright and promising future, linked to the values of Navarra, a classical yet, at the same time, emerging winegrowing land.

About Masaveu Family Wineries

The Masaveu family began to invest in the wine sector in 1974, when it acquired Bodegas Murua, but the family’s vineyard plantations date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés, where the family originated and where Federico Masaveu Rivell began the work that his descendants would continue a century later.

Since then, Masaveu Bodegas have been growing, with a firm commitment to quality in the production of their wines in different designations of origin and to the ecological philosophy they exemplify, with utmost respect for the land where they own their vineyards, thanks to which they manage to transmit, in each bottle, the unique personality of each terroir. In this manner, each and every one of the projects Masaveu Bodegas in different parts and regions of the country are united under a common denominator: Murua (DOCa. /qualified designation of origin/ Rioja), Fillaboa (DO. /designation of origin/ Rías Baixas), Pagos de Araiz (DO. Navarra), Leda (Wine from the Land of Castilla y León) and Valverán (Asturias).
