IN THE TERROIR

Masaveu Bodegas’ wines begin in the vineyard. The terroir is the foundation upon which the balance of what is later completed by a good work of viticulture and production is based. The importance of land care to extract the best raw materials is essential for this winemaking group. This is possible thanks to the 190 hectares of cultivated land, more than 50% registered as organic (100 hectares), which allows it to care for and maintain the land in the different geographical indications in which it operates: Rías Baixas with Bodegas Fillaboa; Castilla y León with Bodegas Leda; Rioja with the first of all, Murua; and Asturias with Llagares Valverán.

The wines produced by Masaveu Bodegas are known for being a benchmark of quality and an example of respect for the land. Although each wine has its own distinct style and personality, this winemaking group strives for them all to share a common commitment: quality as a philosophy and standard of conduct applied to all areas and processes of the production cycle. Production from their own vineyards and the commitment to conveying the personality of each location in each bottle connect each of the projects spread across Spain. All pursue sustainable agriculture, improving the quality of the environment, and the lives of workers and farmers, the environment, and society in each of the areas where they operate.
For this group of wineries, the environmental sustainability of each location is essential to maintain the expression of the terroir, which in the future will also be determined by the viticulture of that area and the interventions made by humans to optimize it.

Improvement of productive efficiency and health and social aspects

Both the three wineries and the cider mill employ agricultural and oenological practices to produce wines and ice ciders that reflect the business group’s commitment to sustainability. This involves improving production efficiency (energy, water, addressing climate change, biodiversity, etc.) and improving health and social aspects, i.e., producing products with fewer resources that emphasize quality while also preserving the environment. In this way, Masaveu Bodegas aims to reduce energy consumption and sources, and avoid the waste of raw materials, water, fertilizers, and phytosanitary products in its quest to increase the quality of its wines, the profitability of its products, and the improvement of its farms.
