VS Murua 2021, made by Bodegas Murua, a winery situated in Rioja Alavesa, precisely in the town of Elciego, and belonging to the winemaking group Masaveu Family Wineries, has achieved the highest distinction; the Great Gold Medal, in the first edition of the Barcelona Wine Test Urban 2025 Contest. Only 66 of the 200 wines presented and blind-tasted by 150 consumers at the massive tasting obtained a medal and only 5 of the 200, one of which was VS Murua, obtained a Great Gold Medal.
The aim of this contest is to reactivate wine culture and connect it to new generations, the jury is formed by real consumers and wine lovers, and this is what makes it different from traditional contests rated by experts.
This contest, which took place in Barcelona on 7 November last in the Hotel Intercontinental, is related to the Feria Barcelona Wine Week which shall take place in February 2026.
VS Murua es un vino tinto de Rioja de gran personalidad, elegancia y expresión frutal. Es un vino seductor que refleja el lugar del que procede, la sierra alavesa. Se trata de una de las dos referencias de estilo moderno que elabora la bodega junto con M de Murua, en las que la materia prima, es decir, la uva, tiene un papel protagonista, y con ese objetivo se cuidan día a día los viñedos en propiedad ubicados en las inmediaciones de la bodega.
VS Murua es un vino tinto con crianza de 16 meses en barricas de roble francés y americano, elaborado principalmente con la variedad tempranillo. It has a beautiful, bright ruby-red color with violet hues, an intense fruity aroma, and on the palate it is elegant, smooth, fresh, and pleasant, with a long, sweet, and captivating finish.
