Triple acknowledgement for Murua Reserva at the International Asia Wine Ratings Competition

Bodegas Murua, belonging to Masaveu Family Wineries, is enjoying important international recognition for the success of its Murua Reserva 2017 at the Asia Wine Ratings 2025 contest, where it won the Gold Medal, and two highly prestigious awards; Tempranillo of the Year and Wine of the Year Spain.

Asia Wine Ratings is the only wine competition in Asia that focuses exclusively on retailers, and its jury is formed by an expert panel of off-premise independent retailers, regional and national retailers, distributors and importers from across the region. Specifically, wines are rated out of 100 points in each category; Quality, Value and Package.

This award not only validates the oenological quality of this wine made in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa, but also its commercial appeal and its positioning at retail points across the Asian continent. This is the winery’s flagship wine both in Spain and at international level.

Red wine bottle

According to José Masaveu, managing director at Masaveu Family Wineries, this triple award is the result of long-term work based on precision viticulture that respects the environment, carried out in estate-owned vineyards grown in clay-limestone soils that award the wine great personality. Likewise, it reflects the winery’s continuous improvement policy, aiming towards excellence throughout all processes, both in the vineyards and the winery, and a firm commitment to quality through controlled and limited production.

This red wine is made with Tempranillo (93%) and Graciano (7%) grape varietals. It stays in French and American oak barrels for 20 months, before resting in the winery’s underground cellar for at least four years.

This process leads to an attractive wine, with an intense aroma, that stands out on the palate due to its elegance, creamy texture and consistency, resulting in a very well-balanced and harmonious wine.

This wine has been awarded with numerous prizes and has obtained excellent results in various wine guides and competitions all over the world. Such as, for example, the 97 points obtained in the Guía Gourmets 2025 (Spain) or the Gold medals achieved in the Wines From Spain Awards 2025 and The Drinks Business 2024 (United Kingdom).

About Masaveu Wineries

The Masaveu family began investing in the winemaking sector in 1974, when they acquired Bodegas Murua, but the family’s vineyard plantings date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés, where the family originates and where Federico Masaveu Rivell started the steps that a century later would be continued by his descendants.

Since then, Masaveu Wineries has grown steadily with a strong commitment to quality in the production of its wines across different DOs, embracing an ecological philosophy and utmost respect for the land, where it owns its own vineyards, allowing them to convey the unique personality of each terroir in every bottle. In this way, all of Masaveu Wineries’ projects across different parts and regions of the country come together under a common denominator: Murua (DOCa. Rioja), Fillaboa (DO. Rías Baixas), Leda (Wine of Tierra de Castilla y León) and Valverán (Asturias).
