The wine VS Murua, from Murua Winery in Rioja Alavesa, has just unveiled a new image that reflects the historic, innovative, and high-quality character of a brand committed to excellence. The new label showcases all the elegance that defines this wine of great personality and fruity expression, which also stands out for its seductive character.
The launch of the new label coincides with the release of the 2020 vintage, which yielded an abundant amount of fruit, optimal yields, and favorable ripening conditions — ensuring an excellent VS Murua 2020, perfectly aligned with the image conveyed by the new label. “VS Murua is a great wine born from the lands of Rioja Alavesa, honoring the artisanal character that defines all our wines. It is an elegant, fresh, and deep signature wine, full of fruity nuances. With this new label, we wanted to reflect its most unique identity,” explains Mathieu Barrault, winemaker at Murua Winery.
Made from 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo, VS Murua 2020 is a red crianza wine aged for 16 months in French (40%) and American (60%) oak barrels. It displays a vivid, intense, and bright red color with violet hues. With an alcohol content of 15%, it is best served at a temperature between 14 and 16ºC. “For the production of this wine, we select plots with a good percentage of clay soil to ensure the freshness and fruitiness that can be appreciated when drinking it,” explains Barrault.
100% of its vineyard certified organic
Following a strong commitment launched in 2015 to convert its vineyards to organic farming, Winery Murua now has, as of 2023, 100% of its vineyard certified as organic. This transition towards organic cultivation, in line with the sustainable philosophy that defines the entire winery group, is helping to preserve and improve soil quality through the use of non-chemical plant protection products, fostering biodiversity, promoting optimal water management, preserving air quality, enabling better energy efficiency, and contributing to both the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change.
Specifically, the actions carried out in the winery’s vineyards aim to adapt vine cultivation to the natural ecosystem without constant transformation of the environment by human intervention. To achieve this, the winery focuses on regenerating the soil, restoring its vitality, and increasing its capacity to capture atmospheric carbon, thereby reducing the concentration of this gas in the atmosphere—one of the main causes of global warming. Among these measures, Winery Murua promotes the use of plant cover to enhance the soil’s ability to absorb CO₂, and reducing erosion and degradation, lowering soil temperature, and improving water retention.

About Masaveu Wineries
The Masaveu family began investing in the wine sector in 1974, when they acquired Bodega Murua, but the family’s vineyard plantations date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés, where the family originates and where Federico Masaveu Rivell took the first steps that a century later would be continued by his descendants.
Since then, Masaveu Wineries has continued to grow with a strong commitment to quality in the production of its wines across different DOs, as well as to the ecological philosophy they uphold and their utmost respect for the land, where they own their own vineyard plantations, allowing them to convey the unique personality of each terroir in every bottle. In this way, all of Masaveu Wineries projects across different parts and regions of the country come together under a common denominator: Murua (DOCa. Rioja), Fillaboa (DO. Rías Baixas), Pagos de Araiz (DO. Navarra), Leda (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), and Valverán (Asturias).
