Murua strengthens its wine tourism strategy.

Murua strengthens its commitment to wine tourism with a wide and varied range of activities aimed at showcasing the excellent wines produced there, as well as the complex and fascinating world that surrounds them. Through these experiences, visitors will be able to discover wine and its culture in an entertaining and educational way, in one of the most captivating and attractive regions of Spain: Rioja Alavesa.
Specifically, Bodegas Murua is located in the village of Elciego, surrounded by stunning landscapes where the vineyards create a beautiful symbiosis of nature and culture.
The noble main building, which retains the structure of the traditional manor houses typical of this area of Rioja Alavesa, serves as the focal point for the wide and varied catalog of experiences designed to enjoy wine.
The oenological proposal aims to surprise visitors by immersing them in the terroir where Murua wines are born, taking them through the vineyards. The green and yellow landscape reveals the land where Murua’s wines thrive, which can later be tasted inside the winery.

 

Library and Private Art Collection

Once inside, Murua Wineries allows visitors to discover its exclusive library and private art collection, owned by Masaveu Corporation, featuring sculptures, paintings, and engravings from the 16th to the 21st centuries.

Murua offers wine tourism enthusiasts the chance to enjoy works by great masters of painting, as well as furniture and decorative objects. These exhibitions feature renowned artists such as Francisco de Goya, Tomás Hiepes, Juan de Arellano, Fernando Sotomayor, Valentín Zubiaurre, Francisco Bores, Daniel Quintero, and Miquel Barceló, whose artworks adorn the corners of the buildings that make up the Rioja winery. Numerous artworks are displayed throughout the winery, many of them depicting harvest scenes, vineyards, and wine, set in taverns or traditional genre scenes from different periods. These are complemented by a variety of ethnographic and handcrafted objects related to winemaking and viticultural traditions.

The library is another treasure open to travelers who visit Elciego. Unique in the Denomination of Origin of La Rioja, the space houses more than 2,455 books and magazines related to the world of wine, dating from the 16th century to the present day. Murua Wineries also offers a deep dive into the wine culture with the person who knows the vine best: the winemaker. The visit includes a guided tour of the vineyard, followed by a technical tour of the facilities and a tasting of different varieties directly from the barrels. Additionally, visitors have access to the stately home and the private art collection owned by Masaveu Corporation. In addition to the visit to the vineyard, the winery, the library, and the private art collection, the tours also include the tasting of various wines:

• ‘Conociendo Murua’. A commented tasting of two premium wines from the winery, VS Murua and Murua Reserva, along with a third wine of your choice: Veguín de Murua Gran Reserva, M de Murua, or Murua Blanco Fermentado en Barrica. Price: 20 euros per person.• Collector’s Tasting. A guided tasting of the five wines that make up Bodegas Murua: VS Murua, Murua Reserva, Murua Blanco Fermentado en Barrica, Veguín de Murua Gran Reserva, and M de Murua. Price per person: 50 €.
• ‘Masaveu Wineries’. four wines From each of the Masaveu Wineries projects located throughout Spain, accompanied by a small appetizer: Fillaboa, Pagos de Araiz Rosado, Más de Leda, and Murua Reserva. Price per person: 30 euros. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to explore Murua Wineries at their own pace by tasting the various wines available at the WineBar, enjoying them in the patio or in one of the interior rooms while taking in the charm of the vineyard landscape, which offers different colors depending on the season.

 

Murua Wineries

The Murua winery, part of Masaveu Wineries, is located in the beautiful town of Elciego, in the very heart of Rioja Alavesa. In a setting of stunning landscapes, the noble main building preserves the structure of the manor houses typical of this area of Rioja Alavesa.

The winery has been owned by the Masaveu family since 1974, when it was acquired to produce wine privately. Years later, it was remodeled and commercially launched with a strong commitment to quality.Currently, Murua produces 250,000 bottles, crafted with a philosophy that focuses on sustainability and respect for the land, values that define the wine group, which is present in various Denominations of Origin (DOs) across Spain: Murua (DOCa Rioja), Fillaboa (DO Rías Baixas), Pagos de Araiz (DO Navarra), Leda (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), and Valverán ice cider (Asturias).
