Masaveu Wineries presents the new vintages of Murua and Fillaboa in Madrid.

The winery group presents its latest wines to hit the market, the 100% Albariño whites from its Fillaboa Winery in the Rías Baixas DO, as well as its elegant wines, both white and red, crafted at Murua, a winery located in the town of Elciego in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.

Madrid, April 23, 2019. The most recent wines from Fillaboa Wineries and Murua Wineries, both part of Masaveu Wineries, have celebrated their debut in the Spanish capital. The terrace of the H10 Puerta de Alcalá Hotel was the venue chosen by the winery group to host an exclusive and special event, where a select group of guests were able to enjoy a sensory experience that transported them to the landscapes, aromas, and sounds of the Murua and Fillaboa wineries, located in Elciego and Salvatierra de Miño, respectively. Guests then had the opportunity to appreciate, guided by the winemakers, the great organoleptic qualities of their creations.
Fillaboa 2018, Fillaboa Selección Finca Monte Alto 2017, Murua Blanco Fermentado en Barrica 2017, M de Murua 2016, and Murua Reserva 2010 were the wines presented, marking the latest releases from both wineries. The winemakers Juan Glaría (director of oenology for the winery group), Isabel Salgado (oenologist at Wineries Fillaboa-DO Rías Baixas), and Mathieu Barrault (oenologist at Bodegas Murua-DOCa Rioja) had the opportunity to share firsthand the particularities, discoveries, and secrets of their most innovative creations. The tasting concluded with a cocktail, where guests, in addition to sampling one of the iconic wines from Masaveu Wineries, Leda Viñas Viejas 2016 (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), were treated to a fun magic show and ended with a toast using the distinguished Valverán 2016 ice cider (Sariego, Asturias).
In the wines of Murua, among many other interesting details, the new concrete tanks introduced with M de Murua 2016 stood out, as well as the exhaustive control of the vineyards thanks to the three weather stations located in different areas, which allow for making quick and accurate decisions and anticipating potential future challenges. Thanks to this attentive listening to nature, which enables the detailed daily care of their own vineyards and a deep commitment to sustainability by respecting the natural course of the vineyard, as well as the use of the latest technologies (optical sorting table with vision cameras and the latest-generation Pellenc de-stemmer), Murua has succeeded in producing wines that are more balanced and elegant on the palate with a French-style influence.

For its part, in the wines of Fillaboa, the aging of the wines on lees, the use of selected native yeasts from the estate, as well as the further specialization and diversification of each of the estate’s plots, even more so in these vintages, were highlighted. As a result, they have achieved Albariños that are more aromatic, smoother, deeper, and rounder on the palate.
The event was presided over by José Masaveu Herrero, CEO of this great wine project that annually produces more than one million bottles across its four wineries (Murua, Fillaboa, Leda, and Pagos de Aráiz) and its ciderhouse (Valverán). According to the Masaveu family member, “it is at its peak not only because of the quality achieved year after year but also because of the great human and professional team that works tirelessly every day to ensure that these treasures of the land, in the form of exquisite wines of different tastes and styles, reach all our consumers.”

Masaveu Wineries
The Masaveu family began investing in the wine sector in 1974, when they acquired Murua Wineries. However, the family’s vineyard plantings date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés, where the family originates, and where Federico Masaveu Rivell took the first steps that would be continued a century later by his descendants.
Since then, Masaveu Wineries has grown to become a benchmark in the industry, known for the quality of its wines produced in various DOs and for its ecological philosophy, which demonstrates the utmost respect for the land. The family owns its own vineyards, through which they manage to convey the unique personality of each terroir in every bottle. In this way, all the projects undertaken by Masaveu Wineries in different parts and regions of the country share a common denominator: Murua (DOCa Rioja), Fillaboa (DO Rías Baixas), Pagos de Aráiz (DO Navarra), Leda (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), and Valverán (Asturias).
