Fillaboa’s Albariños highly scored by Tim Atkin in his Rías Baixas 2024 Special Report

The white wines from Wineries Fillaboa, located in Salvatierra de Miño (Pontevedra province), have been recognized by the prestigious British Master of Wine Tim Atkin in his Rías Baixas 2024 Special Report with high scores. La Fillaboa 1898 2016 received 96 points, Fillaboa Selección Finca Monte Alto 2021 received 94 points, and Fillaboa 2023 received 93 points.

Moreover, the cover photograph chosen by the British journalist and critic was taken in one of the most emblematic plots of this historic Galician winery and the highest point of the Fillaboa Estate: Monte Alto. In his article, he states that “the Fillaboa vineyards over the Miño River are some of the most attractive in Rías Baixas and are the source of this mature and intense Albariño” by Fillaboa winemaker Isabel Salgado, referring to La Fillaboa 1898 2016. He awards this wine 96 points and attests of this highly awarded white wine that it is “dense and concentrated, yet supported by acidity and granite minerality,” with “a medium-creamy palate, flavors of pear and grapefruit, a hint of toasted bread, and a long, sharp, and refreshing finish.”

It also highlights the viticulture work and conversations with Antonio González, Head of the Vineyard at Bodegas Fillaboa, who mentions that “you have to prune hard and sometimes do green harvesting,” and that “there aren’t many vineyards over 30 years old,” in addition to the reviews given to Fillaboa Selección Finca Monte Alto 2021 with 94 points and Fillaboa 2023 with 93 points.

About Wineries Fillaboa

Fillaboa is a historic manor whose estate has remained indivisible over the centuries, making it one of the largest, most beautiful, and oldest estates in Galicia, and the only one that, due to its special characteristics, belongs to Grandes Pagos de España. Behind the 1,600 meters of the thick stone wall that protects the estate lie, in addition to the vineyards, the winery and a spectacular restored manor house. Fifty hectares of Albariño vineyards planted on rolling slopes make up the Fillaboa estate, which spans a total of 74 hectares divided into 12 plots along the natural border with Portugal, next to the Tea and Miño rivers. The rich soils and Atlantic climate, with mild temperatures due to the proximity of the sea, make Fillaboa a privileged place for the cultivation of the native Albariño grape.
