The Rioja Alavesa winery Murua Wineries, part of the prestigious Masaveu Wineries wine group, has just obtained the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection (SWfCP) seal, which demonstrates its environmental, social, economic, and governance commitment.
This certification is the first and only one specifically designed for wineries in the field of environmental sustainability and was created by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV). With this winery from the D.O.Ca. Rioja, there are now 74 wineries across Spain holding the WFCP certification, eight of them located in Álava. Wineries Pagos de Araiz (D.O. Navarra), also part of the Masaveu Wineries group, already holds this certification, and Fillaboa Wineries in the Rías Baixas D.O. will be the next to obtain it.
The SWfCP certification allows for the evaluation of wineries’ commitment to the fight against climate change and their dedication to sustainability, focusing on four specific areas: the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy efficiency, the reduction of waste generation, and the proper and responsible management of water, as well as overall energy efficiency.

Murua Wineries has 100% of its vineyard hectares registered as organic farming a total of 80 hectares spread across 51 plots located in Elciego and nearby towns such as Laguardia, Villabuena de Álava, Lanciego, Leza, and Navaridas.
In addition, this Rioja winery has long been implementing regenerative viticulture as a measure to restore soil health and increase its capacity to capture atmospheric carbon, one of the main causes of global warming.
About Murua Wineries and Masaveu Wineries
Murua Wineries is located in the beautiful village of Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, the main noble building retains the structure of the traditional manor houses typical of this area. Rioja), Fillaboa (D.O. Rías Baixas), Pagos de Araiz (D.O. Navarra),
Since then, Masaveu Winerieshas grown to become a benchmark for the quality of its wines across different DOs, as well as for its environmental philosophy and utmost respect for the land, where it owns its own vineyards, allowing it to convey the unique personality of each terroir in every bottle.
