20,000 estate grown apples and several Asturian apple varietals

Llagares Valverán, situated on the El Rebollar estate, in Sariego, was founded by José Masaveu, Managing Director of Masaveu Family Wineries, in 1998, however the ice cider wasn’t launched until 2007, with the Masaveu family becoming pioneers in the production of ice ciders in Spain. The estate where the apples that make Valverán 20 Manzanas grow has the largest apple orchard in Asturias and Spain, in terms of native Asturian varietals. It is the only Asturian cider mil that exclusively produces this type of cider.

The name Valverán 20 manzanas derives from the quantity of apples required to make each 37.5 cl. bottle, given that it contains the concentrated juice of, at least, 20.

Production of this drink is limited to only 30,000 bottles. It is mainly made with six Asturian apple varietals; Raxao, Durona de Tresali, Verdialona, De la Riega, Xuanina and Fuentes and undergoes a slow and complex production process that requires time and patience, in fact, two years pass between the harvest of the apples and the launch of the ice cider.

Valverán 20 Manzanas ice cider is a fresh and surprising drink that pairs perfectly with foie, cheeses and not very sweet desserts. It has citrus aromas of orange rind, apple and quince. The palate offers a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness, with a tart finish that awards great freshness.

About Masaveu Wineries

The Masaveu family first invested in the wine sector in 1974 when they purchased the Murua Winery in DOCa Rioja, however the family’s first vineyards date back to the middle of the 19th century, precisely in Castellar del Vallés where the family originally comes from and where Federico Masaveu Rivell began a journey to be continued one century later by his descendants.

Since then, Masaveu Family Wineries has grown to become a leader in the sector due to the quality of their winemaking in different DO´s and their sustainable philosophy and utmost respect for the land in their estate owned vineyards, thanks to which they transmit the unique personality of each terroir in each and every bottle. This being the common denominator in each and every project led by Masaveu Family Wineries in different regions: Fillaboa (DO Rías Baixas), Leda (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), Murua (DOCa. Rioja) and Valverán (Asturias).
