The Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers (AEPEV) has chosen the 2023 Fillaboa Albariño, produced at Bodegas Fillaboa (D.O. Rías Baixas) and part of the prestigious Masaveu Bodegas group, as the “Best Wine of Spain 2024” in the category of unoaked white wines.

In this 16th edition of the awards, a total of 1,456 wines and spirits were evaluated, including the IGP Spirits of Spain, of which 239, representing all 17 Autonomous Communities, became finalists. Fillaboa 2023 is one of only two wines from the entire D.O. Rías Baixas chosen by the organization, which emphasizes that “these AEPEV Awards recognize the best products.”

This 100% Albariño white wine, aged for six months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, is full of nuances, resulting in a fruity and fresh profile. With a straw-yellow color and a high aromatic intensity of ripe fruits, pineapple, apple, and citrus, it is balanced and persistent. The grapes for this wine come from eight of the most representative and highest-quality vineyards of Finca Fillaboa, which range in age from 18 to 36 years.
This wine has been highly recognized both nationally and internationally. British Master of Wine Tim Atkin awarded it 93 points in his Rías Baixas 2024 Special Report. It also received 94 points in the Proensa Guide 2025, and 93 points in the Gourmets Guide 2025 as well as in the Vivir el Vino Guide.
Fillaboa Wineries
Fillaboa is a historic manor whose estate has remained indivisible over the centuries, making it one of the largest, most beautiful, and oldest estates in Galicia, and the only one that, due to its special characteristics, belongs to Grandes Pagos de España. Behind the 1,600 meters of the thick stone wall that protects the estate lie, in addition to the vineyards, the winery and a spectacular restored manor house.

Fifty hectares of Albariño vineyards planted on rolling slopes make up the Fillaboa estate, which spans a total of 74 hectares divided into 12 plots along the natural border with Portugal, next to the Tea and Miño rivers. The granite-based soils and the Atlantic climate, with mild temperatures due to the proximity of the sea, make Fillaboa a privileged place for cultivating the native Albariño grape.
About Masaveu Wineries
The Masaveu family began investing in the winemaking sector in 1974, when they acquired Bodegas Murua, but the family’s vineyard plantings date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés, where the family originates and where Federico Masaveu Rivell started the steps that a century later would be continued by his descendants.
Since then, Masaveu Wineries has grown steadily with a strong commitment to quality in the production of its wines across different DOs, embracing an ecological philosophy and utmost respect for the land, where it owns its own vineyards, allowing them to convey the unique personality of each terroir in every bottle. In this way, all of Masaveu Wineries’ projects across different parts and regions of the country come together under a common denominator: Murua (DOCa. Rioja), Fillaboa (DO. Rías Baixas), Leda (Wine of Tierra de Castilla y León) and Valverán (Asturias).
