Murua Reserva, “Most Valued Drink” at the 2023 Enogastronomic Award

Murua Reserva yesterday received the 2023 Enogastronomic Award for “Most Valued Drink” in the wine category, at its 7th edition, during the “IX Annual Grand Gastronomic Celebration,” held at the La Barganiza Golf Club facilities in La Barganiza (Siero), Asturias. The winery’s Commercial Director, Juan José Calvo, accepted the award.

This wine from the D.O.Ca. Rioja, produced at Murua Wineries, part of the Masaveu Wineries wine group, was the most highly valued among the 28 wines tasted and sampled by the Gastronomic Circle of Asturian Cheeses during its Regular Meetings and Celebration Meals held in 2023.

The Asturian Cheese Gastronomic Circle, based in Oviedo, was established on June 25, 2013, with the aim of exploring dairy products, primarily Asturian cheeses, and their relationship with gastronomy.

Murua Reserva is an appealing wine that reflects the full tradition of Rioja Alavesa through its great versatility and intense cherry-red color with garnet highlights. It is a full-bodied, flavorful, and elegant wine, with a fresh, long-lasting, smooth, and generous palate. This wine exemplifies the principles guiding Murua’s Wineries philosophy, which focuses on producing the highest-quality wines from its own vineyards. The winery has 80 hectares of vineyards certified organic and holds the Sustainable Wineries For Climate Protection (SWfCP) label for its environmental, social, economic, and governance commitment. It also practices regenerative viticulture, adapting grape cultivation to the natural ecosystem. This approach helps regenerate the soil, restore its vitality, and increase its capacity to capture atmospheric carbon, thereby reducing the concentration of this gas in the atmosphere.

The estate where these wines are “born” is divided into eight plots, mostly planted with red grape varieties (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, and Mazuelo). Depending on factors such as soil composition and structure, orientation, and sun exposure of the clusters, each variety has been carefully cultivated to best express the characteristics of the different terroirs.

About Masaveu Wineries

The Masaveu family began investing in the wine sector in 1974, when they acquired Bodega Murua, but the family’s vineyard plantations date back to the mid-19th century, specifically in Castellar del Vallés, where the family originates and where Federico Masaveu Rivell took the first steps that a century later would be continued by his descendants.

Since then, Masaveu Wineries has continued to grow with a strong commitment to quality in the production of its wines across different DOs, as well as to the ecological philosophy they uphold and their utmost respect for the land, where they own their own vineyard plantations, allowing them to convey the unique personality of each terroir in every bottle. In this way, all of Masaveu Wineries projects across different parts and regions of the country come together under a common denominator: Murua (DOCa. Rioja), Fillaboa (DO. Rías Baixas), Pagos de Araiz (DO. Navarra), Leda (Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León), and Valverán (Asturias).
